The regular season is in the books and what a season it was! We had so many players fighting for a spot in the inaugural playoffs of the United Hearthstone League, but in the end only 4 would make it. There were a lot of interesting line ups and outcomes this week as well. Lets go ahead and jump into the action.
In our first match of the week we saw Andrew Brown of The Happy Hearthstone taking on Chris Plummer of the 1600 Dust Podcast. Andrew came into the match having already clinched a playoff spot and on a 4 match win streak, while Chris came in on the playoff bubble needing a win to keep his hopes alive. In game 1, Andrew jumped out to an early lead taking the game with his Paladin over Chris's Warlock. For game 2, Andrew would switch over to Warlock and keep the momentum going taking the win over Chris's Priest. Game 3 would be all she wrote as Andrew was able to take the game and the match winning with his Priest over Chris's Paladin. Andrew keeps his hot streak alive heading into the playoffs, while Chris will need some help from the field to get in.
Our second match of the week saw Virsica of the Hero Power Podcast facing off against Ben Redington of the Dad Legend Community. Virsica came into this one looking for his first win on the season, while Ben was looking to do everything he could to get into the playoffs. Game 1 saw Ben jump out to an early lead taking the game with his Paladin over Virsica's Priest. From there, Ben would take game 2 as well, winning with his Mage over Virsica's Shaman. Finally, Ben was able to take game 3 in the Priest mirror match. Ben finishes the season at 4-3, while Virisca finishes at 0-7.
Match 3 of the week saw Ridiculous Hat of the Coin Concede Podcast going up against Rod Johnston of the Tier 5 Podcast. Hat came into this one looking to retain his number 1 seed heading into the playoffs, while Rod would need to get a win to clinch a spot. In game 1 Rod came out swinging taking the game and the early lead with his Priest over Hat's Shaman. From there, Rod would keep the momentum going as he took the game 2 Warlock mirror match while jumping out to a 2-0 lead. Hat would respond however, taking game 3 with his Warlock over Rod's Paladin. In the end though, Rod's pursuit of the playoffs would be too much for Hat, as Rod was able to take game 4 and the match win with his Paladin over Hat's Shaman. Rod moves to 4-3 clinching a playoff spot due to the amount of game wins he has, while Hat falls for the 2nd week in the row, but all the while clinching the 2 seed heading into next week.
The final match of the week would be a grudge match between Spivey and Ziggy both representing the 1600 Dust Podcast. The winner of this match would earn themselves a spot in the playoffs as long as Spivey didn't win 3-2. In game 1, Spivey looked to assert his dominance taking the 1-0 lead winning with his Priest over Ziggy's Warlock. In game 2, Spivey would put on another good showing, edging out Ziggy's Hunter with his Warlock and taking a 2-0 lead. Finally and with the playoffs in sight, Spivey was able to complete the 3-0 sweep, taking game 3 with his Paladin over Ziggy's Warlock and clinching the 4th and final spot in the playoffs.
This week I chose to pass on interesting trends that we saw and instead I wanted to focus on the players and what they mean to the United Hearthstone League. Without the amazing players that participated this year we wouldn't have even had a league let alone the success we had. It was truly and honor to work with everyone as everyone always gave 100% and was willing to help out anyway they could. For that, I am incredibly thankful and grateful and cannot wait to see what the playoffs and season 2 hold. That;s right. Season 2 is happening and sooner than you think!
