With week 4 coming to an end, the path to the playoffs has begun. Some players have begun to make their way to the playoffs and achieve greatness, while others have stumbled and are seeing the opportunity slip through their grasp. With only 3 weeks left, now more than every the players need to be on their A game each week. There was a lot of action to cover this week, so let’s dive in.
Match 1 for the week saw Rod of the Tier 5 Podcast taking on Chris from the 1600 Dust Podcast. Both players agreed to play what they considered "meme" decks, so you know we would be in for a show of some type. With that being said, lets get into the results. In game 1 Rod came out swinging taking the game with his Shaman over Chris' Warrior. Chris would respond however, winning games 2 and 3 with his Hunter and Shaman over Rod's Hunter in both games. Game 4 saw Rod answering and taking the game over Chris' Warrior with a Warrior of his own. With the match on the line, Rod would continue his momentum and take the match winning game 5 with his Hunter over Chris' Warrior. Rod improves to 3-1 looking to continue his playoff push, while Chris stumbles to 2-2, but still with the opportunity to make a push.
Our second match of the week saw Ben of the Dad Legend Community versus Andrew of The Happy Hearthstone Podcast. Andrew would look to continue his hot streak as of late, while Ben would look to get back on track. However, this one would be all Andrew from the start. He would take the 3-0 victory with his Hunter, Warlock and Mage classes beating Ben's Warlock and Druid twice. Andrew moves to 2-2 looking poised to make a playoff run , while Ben drops to 1-3 looking to turn things around.
For our third match of the weeks we had Ziggy of the 1600 Dust Podcast matching up against Virsica of the Hero Power Podcast. Both players are currently on the outside looking in in regards to the playoffs, but both players would look to make some headway in this one. Game 1 saw Virsica jumping out to an early lead taking the game with his Druid over Ziggy's Warlock. Ziggy would respond though in game 2 taking the game with her Warlock over Virsica's Paladin. Our third game saw a Warrior mirror that would ultimately see Virsica taking the game and a 2-1 lead. Game 4 saw yet another mirror between Paladins with this time seeing Ziggy come out on top. In the end Ziggy would prove to be too much as she takes game 5 and the match with her Warrior over Virsica's Paladin. Ziggy moves to 2-2 on the season and will look to continue her winning ways next week, while Virsica still looks for his first match win of the season.
Our final match of the week would see RidiculousHat of the Coin Concede Podcast pitted up against Spivey of the 1600 Dust Podcast. Spivey vowed to go with a line up that would end Hat's win streak and not allow him to go undefeated through regular season play. Lets see how that worked out for him. Games 1 saw Hat jump out to an early lead taking the game with his Shaman over Spivey's Paladin. Spivey would bounce back in game 2 however, and take game 2 with his Warlock over Hat's Hunter. Wanting to get a win with Hunter, Hat opted for the class again in game 3 and this time came out victorious against Spivey's Paladin. With the score 2-1 going into game 4, Spvey would opt for Rogue and would find a game 4 win against Hat's Mage. Game 5 saw a match up of Hat's Mage versus Spivey's Paladin. In the end, Spivey could not find the footing needed to take a win with Paladin, dropping game 5 and giving Hat the 3-2 victory. Hat stays undefeated at 4-0 atop the standings, while Spivey falls to 2-2, but sill very much in playoff contention.
There were definitely some interesting notes that I want to get to this week starting with class performance. Shaman ended the week going 3-0 and tied with Rogue for the best win percentage on the week. Although a limited number of games played, I think this would come to a surprise of anyone who has been following along. Another possibly anomaly is week was the performance of Paladin. Paladin finished the week at 1-6 and looked weaker than ever this week. The last item I want to touch on is the class selection. In the first cycle most players waited to bring Warlock until week 3. However, this week Warlock was brought the most. This could be either due to players wanting to begin to make a strong push towards the playoffs or something else entirely. Either way its awesome to see a different strategy unfolding as we continue the 2nd cycle of the format. That is all for now.
